Fires Illuminating Mountains is a solo exhibition of ten works from 2020-26.

The title is a reference to the I-Ching hexagram, Luminosity. The hexagram gestures towards knowledge and experience as immaterial assets - fires illuminating mountains - which cannot be bought or acquired except through effort and time. Paintings spanning from 2020-2026 will align chronologically with this concept through an ecological lens; earlier paintings engage with global crises of faith in the wake of an all-encompassing pandemic spawned by human-animal encounters, while later paintings engage with nature as a spiritual force, an ancient cosmological belief that needs to be illuminated in present-day ecological discussions as the costs of climate change become more profound.
